Kevin Jakab is the firm’s founder and managing partner. He has considerable experience handling civil and commercial cases in a variety of areas. He specializes in handling complex civil cases involving significant damages, especially catastrophic loss. He has tried such cases in federal and state court, in multiple venues in Florida.
Mr. Jakab embraces difficult and thought provoking cases. He believes every case requires meticulous attention to detail; thorough analysis, and exhaustive effort on the part of the attorney to reach successful resolution. Mr. Jakab is committed to strong, professional, and ethical representation of every client, in every case. Prior to forming Jakab Law, PLLC, Mr. Jakab was an equity partner at a well-established and highly respected civil trial firm in Jacksonville, Florida.
Mr. Jakab is a “Triple Gator”. He attended the University of Florida, where he graduated with honors after earning a B.A. Degree in 1995, a Master of Education Degree in 1998, and a Juris Doctor Degree in 2003.
In 1997, he attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. whereby he completed a Graduate Fellowship in the area of United States Constitutional History and Law. In 2000, he served as a Congressional Fellow in the United States Senate (106th Congress) where he served as special liaison to The United State Supreme Court and Judicial Committee in the Senate. He was also instrumental in crafting legislation involving: Education; The Everglades; and Campaign Financing.
Mr. Jakab is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been designated as a "Super Lawyer" in Florida in the area of Civil Trial Law. He is a member of the Florida Bar, the Jacksonville Bar Association, the Florida Defense Lawyers Association, the Jacksonville Federal Bar; the Jacksonville Defense Lawyers Association; the Defense Research Institute; and The Claims and Litigation Management Alliance. His primary practice areas include civil trial law; complex civil and commercial litigation; multi-district litigation; bad faith; professional malpractice; premises liability; products liability; toxic torts; and insurance coverage.
Anthony Salem was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida and is an associate who specializes in civil and commercial litigation, including all forms of general liability claims, and criminal defense. After attending high school at Stanton College Preparatory in Jacksonville, Mr. Salem attended the University of Florida. In 2007, he graduated with a B.S. Degree in Finance. After completing his undergraduate studies, Mr. Salem attended Stetson University College of Law where he graduated cum laude with his Juris Doctor Degree in 2010.
Mr. Salem spent the first part of his career as an Assistant State Attorney in Jacksonville. He prosecuted a variety of criminal matters ranging from misdemeanor cases to felonies punishable up to life in prison. Mr. Salem spent time in the office’s specialized Driving Under Influence Unit where he was responsible for training new attorneys and prosecuting offenders with prior DUI convictions and arrests. During his time as a prosecutor, he gained extensive courtroom and trial experience as he handled over 25 jury trials to verdict.
Thereafter, Mr. Salem was an associate at a well-established Jacksonville, Florida insurance defense and civil trial firm. He gained considerable experience in handling all aspects of liability claims, including premises liability, automobile and trucking accident cases, toxic torts, and construction defect cases.
Mr. Salem offers his clients a unique perspective with his background in criminal prosecution and civil litigation experience. He is a member of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners’ Readers Cadre and grades Florida Bar essay answers. He enjoys cycling, outdoor activities, and spending time with his wife and two sons.
Meghan Applegate is a native of Jacksonville, Florida and is an associate who specializes in civil and commercial litigation; trial law; and bankruptcy. She graduated with honors from the University of Florida with both her undergraduate and juris doctor degrees. She served as a member of Law Review and was a Representative on the Law College Council while in law school.
Ms. Applegate represents clients in cases involving commercial torts; foreclosure actions; and civil defense matters. She also has a distinguished background in economics and accounting and has considerable experience representing trustees, creditors, and debtors in bankruptcy cases.
Ms. Applegate is actively engaged in professional and civic organizations. She is a member of the Florida Bar; Jacksonville Bar Association; American Bar Association; Jacksonville Bankruptcy Bar Association; and Jacksonville Women's' Lawyer Association. She is also a member of Junior League of Jacksonville and the Chamber of Commerce IMPACTJax.
Ms. Applegate worked at a well-established larger firm in Jacksonville before joining our firm. She is an avid reader and enjoys being outdoors, cycling and spending time her with her husband and three children.
Bridget Jones has been a paralegal at the firm since 2011 and was an 18-year RN with extensive experience working in hospital settings. Her experience in medicine as a nurse includes: Trauma ER, ICU, Medical/Surgical, Operating Room and Orthopedics—both locally and abroad—as a traveling RN in various clinical settings.
Ms. Jones completed her Paralegal Certification at the National Paralegal Institute and is an invaluable resource for the firm during the discovery phase of cases and through trial. Ms. Jones also enjoys communicating in conversational ASL, and along with her husband, being involved with the deaf community in northeast Florida.
